Affection

"The dust blown day seemed to cling to the Sun’s orbit as if to make each second last one more. The windows rattled from time to time in appreciation of the sea born gusts. Just now her eyes seemed more sensitive to any distant artificial light. The tricks they played on her mind seemed cruel, yet she knew this was just another way for her to hope. Hope that those round head lights would burn towards her again.

Her hands held her head up above a fresh hot tea. Another remembrance. Another one of their favorite things.

"Another day"… he said as she last held him like a valley holds a stream.

One more day to wait for the years of being apart, and in the seconds that he had left again. Shimmering light bounced from a ripple in his mug. He was so sensitive but completely used to nothing being there. The curtains still darkly hid the inside. Now was no time to open up. Perhaps. Maybe one day their laughing and passion would require the light to dance in. In the hands of a good book he would read for hours on the day bed he built custom for the spot.

Another day… She knew her thoughts of him would not sustain for this real world they had become obedient to. Though he would at some point return. To light the dark for covers thrown to the floors. Her affection would never go. Never go."
